Roots of Health

The Roots of Health Program is made possible through a powerful partnership between Mercy Regional Medical Center, Centura Health, and the Good Food Collective. We work together to bridge the gap between the food we eat and overall health by making fresh, local food convenient and affordable.

This three year pilot program will include both an Employee Foodshare Program for Mercy Associates and a Produce Prescription Program for hospital patients. Through these programs, we address food insecurity and food access both within Mercy Regional Medical Center, as well as throughout the surrounding community!

Employee Produceshare program

This progam is a powerful partnership between Centura Health, Mercy Regional Medical Center, and the Good Food Collective, which aims to address food insecurity and build greater awareness of the tie in between health and food for Mercy staff.

This Summer we are working with 3 local farms to supply 130 CSA shares to exceptionally appreciative healthcare workers. Mercy Associates signed up at the beginning of harvest season to receive weekly shares of the freshest produce on the market! We are so excited to see how the season progresses, and its future impacts on health outcomes, food security, and the local food system.

Keep an eye out for more throughout the season!

Coming soon

In addition to the Employee Produceshare, we will soon be launching a Produce Prescription Program, "Fresh to Flourish", for Mercy Hospital patients! This initiative uses food as medicine, meaning Mercy doctors will be able to prescribe veggies as a means to combat food insecurity and the resulting poor health outcomes!

Health for all!

Thank you to the Mercy Health Foundation and Centura Health for supporting this valuable program.
