Land AcknowledgemenT
The Good Food Collective first and foremost would like to formally acknowledge the land that we work on, cultivate, and occupy was taken from the Indigenous tribal nations of the Núuchiu (Ute bands), Diné (Navajo), Pueblo (20 tribal nations), multiple Apache bands, and various other tribes who utilized this land in conjunction, like the Paiute, Kiowa, Comanche and more. We pay respect to those who came before us and resided in this land before western expansion. We recognize and acknowledge that these nations were subjected to genocidal atrocities by way of massacres, natural resource theft, food system manipulations, sacred land desecration, and child theft and forced assimilation via the US government boarding school system, not withholding the history of Fort Lewis College. We extend this mention to also include Indigenous Latinx populations who are still actively persecuted today on this land.
We also recognize that our Indigenous Tribal Nations thrive in the face of adversity, and this is not to say that systemic barriers are still not needing to be addressed due to ongoing perpetuation of colonial settlerism. We also recognize that the land is a gift, and has no owner, and that by shifting power, we all can live and thrive together. The stewards of this land, and their descendents, must not be forgotten, but instead acknowledged and respected.
