What is a day without childcare?
On May 11, 2026, providers, parents, and allies will come together to strike for universal child care and thriving wages for providers. We're participating in this national campaign to win universal childcare for every child and family, and to raise awareness about the childcare crisis in La Plata County.
OUR DEMANDS:

-
Universal child care for every child and family
-
Thriving wages for early childhood educators
-
A childcare system built on racial and gender equity

real stories from our community

Our Voces de la Comunidad Workgroup helped pass a Lodgers Tax in La Plata County that devotes $700,000 annually to childcare and affordable housing. Their leadership helped move childcare from a community need to a public priority.

Women from our community have been coming together for years to advocate for childcare. They're celebrating progress—and continuing to speak up for the needs of the Latine community, using their voices to build power and create change.

Claudia is a mother and long-time advocate. She contributed to this work before she was pregnant, continued through her pregnancy, and is still showing up today—now with her daughter, who's almost two years old.
Her story reflects what many parents experience: advocating for change while raising a child at the same time.

We collaborated with Rocky Mountain PBS for a Make a Circle film showing. Caregivers and community members came together to talk about how childcare impacts families, the workforce, and our entire community. These conversations are helping build shared understanding—and collective action.
